At Maier Chiropractic, my goal is to get you back in the game of life as soon as possible. While it is true that more severe injuries require more intense treatment regimens, my goal is to get you well as quickly as possible. I am an evidence-based Chiropractor, meaning that I will not use scare tactics to keep you coming back for unnecessary treatments.
I am currently the team Chiropractor for the Idaho Steelheads and have worked with other professional athletes from Baseball, Football, and Golf. I also work with weekend warriors who may be getting up in age
a bit, and can’t do the things that they are use to doing (I say this as I look in the mirror). I treat everyone from grandparents to infants, elite athletes to desk jockeys.
I will do more than just “pop” the joints of your spine. I will pay attention to what you are telling me (yes, I am a Doctor, and I will listen to what you are saying when you speak). I will also watch how you move, and use specific orthopedic tests to get a clear picture of how to get you better quickly.
I am Graston, RockTape, and Kettle Bell certified. I speak CrossFit, Strongman and have over 25 years of weightlifting experience. I don’t say these things to brag, but to let you know that I have a lot of tools in my toolbox to go along with my joint manipulation skills to get you better quickly.
What I will not do is subject you to an endless parade of x-rays. Studies show that the vast majority pain-free patients have abnormal x-ray findings.
I will not try to convince you to sign up and pay in advance for multiple treatments because you have “arthritis” in your neck or low back. The fact is when we get to a certain age, most of us have arthritis in our neck and low back. Most people past the age of 40 start to have x-ray findings that are technically arthritis. I cannot make it magically go away with spinal manipulation or any other treatment. No one can change the shape of your bones. Blowing smoke at you and saying they can just seems wrong to me.
What I will do is help you achieve your optimal function and mobility, whatever that may be for you. No one knows how each patient will respond to treatment; we just know the average response time. But you are you, not an average. It may take two adjustments with related exercises and stretches, or it may take several.
You have my word that I will shoot straight with you. I will talk you through each visit , let you know what I think, and what my experience tells me involving your progress.

Everyone opens this page and expects to read a third person narration of how fantastic this Chiropractor is. If that is what you are looking for, this may be a bit of a disappointment because I am not going to do that. We are all well aware of the fact that the Doctor is the one writing that stuff, so let’s cut the fluff, and I will just tell you about myself.
I graduated from the University of Western States, in Portland, a while back. I have been involved in just about every sport there is, and have dealt with a variety of injuries related to those sports. It either happened to me or someone I know.
Becoming a Chiropractor, I saw the value of experience in all these athletic endeavors. When a patient comes in saying they have a “sore what-not” or an “injured this-and-that,” I understand, because I have seen it and treated it before. I have been the Chiropractor to the Idaho Steelheads hockey team for the last decade, so believe me when I say I have seen and treated a lot of injuries.
I differ in a few ways from the run of the mill Chiropractor you may be familiar with. First off, I am not just a pop-a-joint Doc. The odds are very strong that there is a soft tissue condition related to your joint problem. If I don’t address both issues then I am doing you a disservice by just making your joints “crack” and taking your money.
The next big difference you will find with me is there will be no high-pressure sales tactics. I will not show you a set of your x-rays and try to scare you with big 30 plus visit treatment plans. I use actual evidence and research to back my procedures.
As my patient, you will be involved with the process by doing the “homework” we go over as you get past your pain. The homework usually consists of exercises and stretches specifically designed for you to keep you from having to come back and see me for months at a time. It’s simple.
My goal is to get you better as quick as possible to get you back in the game (be that professional sports or chasing the Grandkids). By doing this, I keep you happy and get you to tell your friends and family about your experience in my office.
For a different, and if I may be so bold, better Chiropractic experience, give us a call at (208) 996-4839 today.
Traditional spinal manipulation, commonly referred to as Adjustments, are used to align the segments of the spine. This can be done a variety of ways, such as Drop Table, Activator (the "clicker" as my patients like to call it), and my preferred method, the hands on manipulation. Doing this I will incorporate a Muscle Energy Technique where the patient helps, thereby making this very gentle and more comfortable for anyone on my treatment table.
The hip and shoulder joints are very similar, in the sense that they are both pretty much ball and socket joints. While there are issues that can be helped with an adjustment of the hip and/or shoulder (acetabular and glenohumeral respectively), in a lot of cases, these joints have muscle problems (too strong on one side, not strong enough on the other side sort of thing) that are the underlying causes. I will take you through a movement screening and orthopedic testing to find underlying muscle or connective tissue problems that need to be addressed to help the shoulder or hip function better. Each patient is unique in how the treatment is applied and specific exercises will be assigned as "homework" to help speed recovery.
Like hips and shoulder are very similar, the knee and elbows are a lot alike. For the most part, they are simple hinge joints that have multiple muscles going all over the place crossing the joints at different angles. While dealing with the elbow it is often overuse problems that plague the patient. The treatment for these and similar issues can involve Graston technique and RockTape application to the site of pain to promote a healing response. The knee can be a different animal altogether. It is very rare that a knee problem is a problem with the knee. I know that sounds strange, but the knee being a simple hinge, its job is to swing back and forth. That's it. That is all it is made to do. The problem and pain generator is usually either from upstream or downstream in the body. Upstream being that you could have an issue with hip function or mobility that I'll address or downstream meaning if you have foot or ankle problems it can cause the knee to not do what it is made to do. All of these points are mute if there is a trauma of some kind involved like an auto accident, but in most cases, when I find the functional issue that is causing the knee pain and correct it, the knee works better and there is a reduction in pain.
As I said that elbows and knees are alike and shoulders and hips are similar, ankles and wrists have nothing in common with each other except that they are at the end of your extremities. The wrist has eight little bones that are sort of like a small sack of marbles that have to lay flat (ish) to work. If one of these marbles gets out on place as you could imagine that it will put a kink in the whole thing. I will correct this articulation problem with a gentle but specific adjustment and teach you some mobility stretches to get you back on track, pain free. Ankle joints are known as a mortise joint. A bracket shaped socket made up of three bones. Really pretty simple. There is a bunch of soft tissue that makes this joint move in flexion and extension (back and forth) with very little room for anything else. Most ankle problems either come from foot problems or direct injury.
Again, these are sort of similar except you walk on one and grab with the other (unless you are really talented). While they are made a lot alike, they are obviously designed for very different function. Because of that, injury and problems hands and feet are varied and numerous (too numerous to mention here in great detail). Just suffice it to say that I have seen and treated many, many problems with great success. Give me a call and we can discuss your individual complaint and go over what methods I would use to help you with it.
